This week, on August 2, the EU\u2019s AI regulation was supposed to take effect for all AI systems classified as \u201chigh risk\u201d \u2014 voice assistants in healthcare, AI that sorts CVs, systems that assess creditworthiness. But at the last minute, the EU postponed that part. The strictest requirements \u2014 risk management, human oversight, technical documentation \u2014 now apply only in December 2027, for AI built into products in August 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has come into effect, however, is the requirement for transparency. Chatbots must now say that they are AI. Content that is AI-generated should be able to be marked as such. Simply put: the law is less concerned with stopping AI and more about you knowing when you are talking to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That same week, LinkedIn launched a button where you can flag posts that feel like \u201cAI slop.\u201d Two things are happening in parallel: lawmakers are demanding that AI be able to identify itself, and regular users are saying they want to be able to opt out of what feels like too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it's the same original desire. We don't want less technology in our lives. We want technology that is honest and visible, not hidden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It reminds me of what I carry with me in my everyday life and trust.
