AI later."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tech Thursday \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This stuck with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not because it was technologically advanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But because it felt\u2026 a little uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because somewhere I know it&#039;s true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That if we start with AI \u2013 instead of ourselves \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>then something happens to our way of thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that&#039;s what I want to highlight today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What we risk losing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I notice it myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I first write \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then something happens inside me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thoughts take shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New ideas emerge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I understand what I really think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if I start with AI?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then it will go faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More stylish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But also\u2026 a little emptier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that&#039;s where it gets interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This has actually been researched.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A study from MIT (which I read about recently) compared three groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>one who wrote entirely by themselves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>someone who used Google<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one who used AI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The result was clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Those who used AI from the beginning had lower brain activity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 They felt less ownership over what they wrote<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 And they remembered the content worse afterwards<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is sometimes called:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201ccognitive debt\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we save mental energy now \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but pays later in the form of poorer understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And this isn&#039;t really new.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interesting thing is that this is completely in line with previous research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Generation effect (Slamecka &amp; Graf):<br>We remember better what we create ourselves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retrieval practice (Roediger &amp; Karpicke):<br>We learn more when we actively try to remember<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Desirable difficulty (Bjork):<br>Effort is part of learning \u2013 not an obstacle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So this isn&#039;t just about AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#039;s about how we function as humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The crucial thing: in what order we do things<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What really stuck with me was this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 If you start with AI \u2192 you relax a bit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Are you starting out yourself \u2192 AI can empower you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#039;s a huge difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it&#039;s also quite logical when you think about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>My own conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#039;t want to stop using AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the contrary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I also don&#039;t want to lose myself in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it&#039;s easy to do it \u2013 without noticing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When everything goes faster...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so it can also become more superficial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is how I plan to use it going forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quite simple actually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Think for yourself first<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write something down \u2013 even if it\u2019s messy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then use AI to clarify and develop<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Not the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A little thing you can try<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next time you&#039;re going to write something:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Don&#039;t start with AI<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set a timer for 5\u201310 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and write yourself first<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then you can get help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feel the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why I&#039;m sharing this<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because I think this is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not just for productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for us as people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That we continue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>think<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>feel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>formulate ourselves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That we don&#039;t just become someone who presses &quot;generate&quot;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And maybe this is the new balance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI or human<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human first.
