Nothing dramatic, no big aha moment. Just a small number that quietly tells you how your body is really feeling.

This is my resting heart rate for the past year — and what it actually means.

A year in numbers

From July 2025 to June 2026: average 61 beats per minute, with a clear downward trend to 53 beats in June. I measure continuously with the Apple Watch Ultra 2 — both day and night — which provides a more reliable basis than single measurements. The watch captures the actual resting state, not just the moment when you remember to measure.

A downward trend like this reflects a heart that pumps more efficiently with each beat and needs to work less at rest. It's not a coincidence — it's accumulated movement over time.

What does your value mean?

The same number tells you different things depending on where you are in life:

Age

61 beats/min

53 beats/min

20-year-old

Okay — active young body should aim lower

Good — indicates regular exercise

30-year-old

Approved for someone who exercises regularly

Very good — well-trained level

40-year-old

Good — average fitness level

Excellent — athletic level

50-year-old

Very good — above average

Athletically impressive

60+

Excellent — athletic level

Exceptional — top condition

A resting heart rate naturally drops when the body is allowed to move regularly — and rises when we live in chronic stress, sleep poorly, or move too little. It keeps counting even when we don't.

How then?

Daily walks. Cycling. Food that gives the body what it needs. Nothing extreme — just a way of life in flow. That's exactly what Moving Monday is all about.

An important note

Resting heart rate is one of many health metrics. Apple Watch continuously measures your heart rate and provides a good overall picture, but the number alone is not a diagnostic tool. Beta blockers, thyroid conditions, and other factors can affect your heart rate — so talk to your doctor if you see any readings that surprise you.

Where are you? Check your health app and find your annual average — then feel free to share in the comments 💚

Maria, Amaelle Life

MovingMonday #Amaelle #Body joy #Resting pulse #AppleWatch #Health #MovementIFloW

Some metrics sneak up on you.
