For twelve years I have been a part of the Marieborg Quilters \u2014 and yet I haven't been there all the time. There are those who have been there even longer, who remember when this was just a few sewing machines. Twice a year, summer and winter, we gather, often at Marieborgs Folkh\u00f6gskola and transform the gymnasium into something completely different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Table after table is set up in long rows. Lots of chairs, their own sewing machines in place, and already on the first evening the tables are full \u2014 fabrics, spools of thread, someone's half-finished quilt spread out across both their own table and their neighbor's. No one is stressed. It's five days where time is measured by how far you've gotten with your work, not by the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What makes it special is not the venue or the machines. It's all the years of accumulated knowledge in the room. Someone who has been there for fifteen or twenty years and knows exactly how to solve a tricky detail. Someone else who comes for the first time and is well received. Coffee is sometimes brewed, someone keeps track of whose turn it is, some have baked a cake and are offering. And in the middle of all this \u2014 real, cozy conversations. The kind that only come when your hands are busy and no one needs to make eye contact to talk about life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the days we have \u201dShow and tell\u201d, it is a real highlight to see all the beauty that has been created since we last met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This summer's round, Sy-lan 2026, will take place June 25\u201329. In a large hall, the same community that has grown over the years, different people in the room \u2014 and new quilts waiting to be created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Where do you sew and create? At the kitchen table, in your own sewing room, or in the middle of the living room with piles of fabric on the sofa? Or do you also leave home and meet others to sew?
