Eva Björnström – glass and enamel

blank

Eva comes from a family of craftsmen in Karesuando and, after detours far from her dream, has finally landed in what she always wanted to do. Today she works with glass crafts and enamel jewelry in the premises at Ateljénord, where she moved with her colleagues from the Old Town when Kiruna city center was rebuilt.

Snow Star

Her glass is shaped using molds she casts herself in sand, plaster, concrete and metal – techniques that give the glass exciting, unique structures. The result is objects, window mobiles, stars and angels, often with simple, seasonal names such as Snow Star and Winter Sun. In enamel, she works with necklaces and earrings in varying shapes, sizes and colors.

Eva is also a clear voice for why Ateljénord works the way it does: women's craft, she points out, is often undervalued when you sit at home alone doing it. Together, you support each other and help each other value what you create – twenty years of collaboration that has paid off, as she puts it.
