Qigong – movement, breathing and attention

In parks and quiet corners around the world, millions of people practice Qigong every day.

It may almost look too simple to be training:

slow movements, soft breathing and quiet focus.

Yet this is a tradition that is several thousand years old and still one of the most widely practiced health practices in China.

The word Qigong can be roughly translated as “working with life energy”.

But in practice it's about something very simple – training body and mind together.

Through slow movements, breathing and attention, Qigong aims to support:

  • circulation
  • balance
  • mobility
  • a calmer nervous system

Many people start exercising because they want to feel better about their bodies.

Over time, many also discover something more: a deeper connection between body, breathing and attention.

In this way, Qigong is less about pushing the body –

and more about learning to listen to it.

Many different shapes

Throughout history, many different Qigong systems have developed.

Some are connected to martial arts.

Others to meditation or breathing.

Some are used primarily in rehabilitation and health.

One of the modern forms that has spread internationally is Zhineng Qigong.

Why Zhineng Qigong?

Zhineng Qigong was developed in the 20th century by physician Pang Ming, who combined traditional Chinese methods with modern knowledge of health and the body.

What makes the system special is its simplicity.

The movements are soft and accessible, but at the same time train several important parts of well-being:

  • posture
  • breathing
  • coordination
  • attention

Even short daily exercises can contribute to more relaxation, better balance and a calmer nervous system.

For many, Zhineng is therefore a great entry point into the world of Qigong.

A soft beginning

Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing a series of small Daily reflections and exercises inspired by Zhineng Qigong.

The idea is not achievement or perfection.

Without exploring how small, regular exercises can support health, presence and clarity in everyday life.

If you are curious, you are welcome to follow along.
